Recreational Pilots License
Dreaming of flying a helicopter? The Recreational Pilot Licence (RPL) is your first step. Perfect for beginners, it lets you take control and experience the thrill of flight. Whether for fun or as a pathway to a commercial career, HTT at Bankstown Airport provides expert training to build your skills and confidence.
What is a Recreational Pilot Licence?
A Recreational Pilot Licence is the first level of pilot certification that allows you to fly a helicopter within a designated training area and under specific conditions. It is an excellent option for those who want to experience the freedom of flying without the commitment of commercial training.
With this licence, you can:
✅ Fly a helicopter as the pilot in command within an approved area
✅ Carry passengers once you meet additional experience requirements
✅ Gain the necessary skills to progress to a Private Pilot Licence or Commercial Pilot Licence
This licence gives you a strong foundation in helicopter operations, helping you build confidence and experience in the air.
What is Required to Obtain a Recreational Pilot Licence?

Navigation and radio communication training to prepare you for real-world flying
At HTT Helicopter Transport and Training, you will train on the Guimbal Cabri G2, a state-of-the-art helicopter designed for pilot education. It is known for its advanced safety features, stability, and reliability, making it an ideal aircraft for learning.

A Journey of Discovery, Not Just a Licence
Unlike airplanes, helicopters offer total freedom—you’re not tied to runways or airports. You can take off from a small clearing, hover over stunning landscapes, or land in remote locations. This ability to go where others can’t is what makes helicopters so special.
Your training is not just about passing a test—it’s about exploring, challenging yourself, and growing. There’s no rush, no competition. Every student learns at their own pace, and every flight is an opportunity to learn, improve, and enjoy the experience. The best pilots aren’t just skilled—they have a deep connection with flying, an understanding that comes from experience, patience, and passion.
